CHURCH MUSICIANS (KEYBOARD, DRUMMER, GUITAR) - PAID POSITION

Position Summary
The Church Musicians is responsible for providing musical support for our blended worship service by playing the piano, accompanying the choir, and playing other music as needed in the service. This person will also be expected to play for special musical events in the life of the church.

Scope of Responsibilities The Church Musician will:

  1. Prepare and play for all choir and worship team rehearsals.

  2. Prepare and perform all music selections in the Sunday service including hymns, contemporary worship music, and choir accompaniment.

  3. Prepare and play special music as needed, including offertory and communion music unless volunteers have been recruited to perform certain selections.

  4. Coordinate instrumental selections for special music with the Worship Coordinator.

  5. Accompany special events on the church calendar, which might include Maundy Thursday, an Easter cantata, a Christmas music program, or other special services.

  6. Notify the Worship Coordinator of any absences to allow a suitable substitute to be obtained.

Supervision and Compensation
The Personnel group will recommend the compensation for the Church Musician as part of the annual coordinated budget process. The position will be paid on a weekly basis. This person will report to the Worship Ministry Coordinator.

Qualifications

  1. This person should be a Christian who desires to use his or her gifts in ministry.

  2. He or she should exhibit technical proficiency in playing hymns and contemporary Christian music, playing from lead sheets, accompanying anthems, following direction, sight reading, and solo performance.

  3. This person should relate well to adults and work well as a team member.

  4. This employee must be supportive of church staff and policy and should be willing and able to communicate that support.

DIRECTOR OF WORSHIP - VOLUNTEER WITH CAPACITY TO BECOME PAID

Position Description

  1. Cast and communicate a vision of corporate worship in all age categories.

  2. Assemble and lead a team/teams composed of those gifted in the area of worship leading ministry.

  3. Oversee band schedule and provide leadership to weekly rehearsals.

  4. Define and implement the necessary steps that will move the congregation towards the vision of corporate worship.

  5. Oversee special programs deemed valuable to enhancing the Music & Fine Arts Ministry.

  6. Provide education/training for the worship leading team members to enhance the use of their gifts.

  7. Provide training to members of the youth group who have skill, desire and a passion to lead worship.

  8. Incorporate various worship styles in the Music & Fine Arts Ministry.

  9. Maintain a familiarity with current Music & Fine Arts Ministry trends that will enhance the mission of Greater Experience Worship Center.

  10. Oversee and provide leadership to the various Music & Fine Arts teams (e.g. worship teams, drama teams, choirs, ensembles, etc.) and technical teams (sound, video, lighting, décor, etc.).

  11. Expectation of 35-55 hours per week in ministry related activities (flexible work schedule).

Qualifications

  2. Commitment to the mission, Vision, and worship philosophy of GEWC.

  3. Demonstrated excellence as a worship ministry leader. 

  4. Training/education in Music & Fine Arts Ministry.

  5. A heart for the spiritual formation of those in the congregation and the worship ministry.

Abilities

  1. A skilled musician. (Play guitar or piano, lead vocalist, create new music arrangements, etc.)

  2. Relational skills and an enthusiastic presence for leading in worship and help growing a church plant.

  3. Skilled in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships.

  4. Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers, Power Point, ProPresenter, and video projection etc.

  5. Ability to incorporate other art forms as needed.

  6. A self-starter and able to work independently.

  7. A team player with a positive attitude.

  8. Ability to communicate, lead, and engage with the congregation and volunteers from a stage setting; frequently leads corporate worship from the stage.

  9. Ability to think theologically for choosing/arranging/writing music that accurately reflects the teachings of Scripture.

AUDIO/VIDEO TECH - VOLUNTEER

Purpose: Serving as Audio/Video Technician helps to ensure the church accomplishes its mission through the production of creative and inspiring services, special events and regular church programs/meetings.

General Description: The Audio/Video Technician serves as part of the Worship Team during services. The Audio/Video Technician configures, operates, and troubleshoots all audio/video equipment used in the execution of services, special events and regular church programs/meetings. This includes a proficiency in audio/visual equipment and programs for connection to livestream and recording worship service for downloading to YouTube. This position serves our ministries and requires a self-motivated individual capable of developing ‘the ministry’s vision’ without constant oversight and who must be detail oriented.

The work requires work on Sundays.
This position will also require some evening work to support various events and functions.
Extra hours will be required of Holy Days and ability to travel at times.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1.  Arrive prior to the scheduled event/activity time and begin review of service schedule and other information related to the service or special event.
  2. Evaluate the status of the audio/visual equipment and reconfigure as needed.
  3. Checking and replacing batteries as needed in wireless microphones and other equipment as needed.
  4. Coordinate and communicate with other Staff and Worship Team members to produce the service/special event as planned, and to understand translation and video cues to minimize distractions during the worship service.
  5. Attend Staff and Worship Team meetings and training sessions as needed.  Set up and install equipment such as microphones, speakers, video screening, projectors, video/audio monitors, recording equipment, sound board, mixing board, wires, cables etc.
  6. Monitor/mix sound feed to ensure quality.
  7. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues and media system problems.
  8. Proficiency in recording live sound including podcasts; ability to use video equipment to record and edit video.
  9. Operate the video streaming system to broadcast Sunday services and other relevant events online.
  10.  Monitor and manage equipment that needs to be sent out for repair, as needed in consultation with Worship Committee and Head of Staff.
  11. Clean audio and video equipment, and store properly.
  12. Compress and digitize audio and video data.
  13. Ensure the safe storage and integrity of data.
  14. Maintain inventory of equipment.
  15. Secure all iPads, wireless mics, etc. in AV booth at the end of practices and services.
  16. Create online version of the sermon: Apple Podcast and church website.
  17. Upload recorded services to the internet - GEWC YouTube Channel.
  18. Availability and willingness to attend workshops to further knowledge and abilities annually.
  19. Ability to attend weekly staff meetings.
  20. Assist other committees with their video needs.
  21. Train volunteers and create a team to help on Sundays and throughout week.

Qualifications:

  1. Strong interest and experience in media production.
  2. Experience and training in studio and field production including lighting, audio and camera work.
  3. Experience and training in post-production work including non-linear editing, compositing, and motion graphic design is a plus.
  4. Experience with Switcher Studio.
  5. Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end (concept to production to final edit).
  6. Organized and able to manage time and multiple projects effectively.
  7. Action-oriented and displays focus, passion and initiative.
  8. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in video production, graphic design and storytelling.
  9. Committed to improvement, seeks and receives constructive criticism, understands strengths and weaknesses.
  10. Effective visual, written and oral communicator.
  11. Manages time and resources well.
  12. Knowledge of worship services would be a plus.
